Hello all,
I'm very new to the gun community and have been thinking about buying my first non-restriceted firearm.
But as a lot of people are — as I have gathered from reading — I am somewhat confused about the storage laws for my gun once I acquire it.
Would it be legal to store it (unloaded & trigger locked, of course) in a carrying case which I could place a lock on, somewhere out of site? The law states that I have to place it in a container, recepticle, or room designed for gun storage that is not easily opened or broken into. Would this apply to my plan?

Thanks for the advice, and I apologize for the absolute greenhorn question.

yes, you'll be good and legal to have it unloaded, locked, stored in a solid locked case.
also you can store the non-restricted in a locked metal cabinet, unloaded.
(try cheap Canadian Tire metal cabinet)

read everything here:

there are several ways to store a non-restrited firearm….#1 in a locked container/safe/gun room/etc(no trigger lock needed)#2 with a trigger lock/padlock/etc (making it unable to fire) #3 removing the bolt or firing pin(again, unable to fire) and storing the bolt in seperate location…have dealt with police whom aren't as informed about the laws as they should be…good luck and do your own homework(knowing the law and understanding the law are often seperate)
